When you meet a Haaji...

Ibn Umar reports that Rasulullaah said: "When you meet a Haajiy (on his way home) then greet him, shake hands with him and ask him to beg forgiveness from Allaah on your behalf before he enters his home, for his prayer for forgiveness is accepted since he is forgiven by Al-laah for his sins." (Ahmad)
Another Hadieth explains the same point. Rasulullaah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is reported to have said: "The Mujaahid (fighter in the way of Allaah) and the Haajiy are members of Allaah's deputation. Whatever they beseech of Allaah, is granted to them and whatever they beg of Him, they receive."
In another Hadieth it is mentioned that Rasulullaah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) once made duaa: "O Allaah, forgive the sins of the Hujjaaj and forgive the sins of him for whom the Haajiy makes dua." It is reported that Rasulullaah made this duaa three times which emphasizes its importance.
It is also reported that Umar رضي الله عنه said: "The Haajiy has the pardon of Allaah and until the twentieth of Rabiul-Awwal, Allaah answers his prayers in which he begs forgiveness for anyone." For these reasons it has always been the custom and habit of the learned Akaabiereen to welcome the pilgrims, to walk with them and to ask them to make duaa on ones behalf.
