Isaale Thawaab

A person that is experiencing some sort of difficulty in the grave is relieved and finds some solace when the living pass over rewards or make Isaal-e-Thawaab for him. We should therefore form a habit of passing over the rewards of our good deeds to the deceased.

PRACTISE OF HADRAT SHEIKH R.A.

Hadrat Sheikh Ul Hadith Maulana Muhamamed Zakariyya Saheb R.A whilst proceeding to Makkah Sharif for Haj stopped for a few days in Bombay. On the second or third day, he gathered all his Mureedeen and Khulafa and addressed them saying, “This is my second or third day here but I have already completed two or three Khatms of Quraan, and passed the Thawaab over to all the deceased Muslims of Bombay.” He then said, “This is my practise whenever I pass by any town.”

He further mentioned that recitation of Surah Ikhlaas thrice is equivalent to reciting the entire Quraan, therefore when passing by any town or graveyard recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice and pass the rewards over to the deceased. In fact we should recite it daily and pass the rewards over to all the deceased Muslims of the world.

VISION OF A BUZURG

There was a particular Buzurg who was once blessed with a vision of what is going on in the graveyard. He was Sahib-e-Kashf (a person to whom Allah Ta'ala opens up certain things.) He witnessed the deceased are emerging from their graves and hastening to receive their gifts (which is the Thawaab which the family members have sent forth). He sees an old lady that was sitting quietly, so the Buzurg asked her, “Why aren’t you collecting anything?” She said, “I have left behind a son but he doesn’t send anything for me, and I therefore request you to advise him in this regard.” The Buzurg visited the son and advised him which became the means of him changing his way, and now started sending rewards for his mother. After sometime, the Buzurg witnessed the same scene at the graveyard but the woman was also collecting her gifts this time, as the son was now sending rewards for his mother.

I usually tell the children of my late friends, “I am sure you are reciting for your parents, but for the sake of my reward recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice and pass the rewards over to your parents and the Marhoomeen.” The deceased really appreciate this, and we too will be rewarded greatly at the same time. We should also make intention of passing over the rewards of the Nawafil Salaah (that we perform) to the Marhoomeen.

May Allah Ta'ala grant us all the ability to visit the Qabrastaan regularly and make Isaale-Thawaab for all the Marhoomeen! Ameen.
