جوار محمد صلیّ اللہ علیہ وسلّم میں رہتے ہیں ہم

We live in the neighbourhood of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam

This could refer to those that are permanently residing in Madinah Sharif or it could refer to those that visit Madinah Munawwarah when going for Umrah or Haj. This poem was written on the instructions of Maulana Aashiq Ilaahi Meeruti, who is a great Aalim and an author of many Kitaabs. He had written the first stanza and sent it to Hadrat, requesting Hadrat to write a poem on this topic.  

زمیں پر مدینہ کی رہتے ہیں ہم                        فلک پر مگر نازکرتے ہیں  ہم

 We live on the land of Madinah, but we are boasting to the heavens

As long as a person with Imaan is living in Madinah, he can boast to the skies of his residence. However, we do not boast because we don’t know whether our Ziyaarat is accepted by Allah Ta'ala or not. If we know with certainty that it is accepted, then we can boast of being afforded the honour of living in Madinah Sharif. 

نہ پوچھو کہ کیا ہے ہمارا شرف                       جوار محمد صلیّ اللہ علیہ وسلّم میں رہتے ہیں ہم

Do not ask that what is our honour, we live in the neighbourhood of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam

The sand that is touching the body of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is more valuable than the Ka’aba Sharif and the Arsh of Allah Ta'ala, then what about a Muslim that is living in Madinah Sharif? What is his value in the sight of Allah Ta'ala? We don’t realise the great value of being able to present ourselves in Madinah Sharif. If a resident of Madinah lives at a distance from Masjid-e-Nabawi and performs Salaah in his local Masjid, then too he is a valuable person. How valuable aren’t those that are close to the Masjid and perform their five daily Salaah in Masjid-un-Nabawi! They are perhaps blessed with the opportunity of reciting Salaat and Salaam daily, how honourable aren’t these people in the sight of Allah Ta'ala!       

کرم ہیں یہ مالک کا اے دوستو                        مدینے کی بستی میں بستے ہیں ہم

This is the kindness of Allah Ta'ala, O friends!, that we are living in the city of Madinah

It is truly the kindness of Allah Ta'ala that we are staying in Madinah Sharif, else, where can sinners like us be worthy of living in Madinah Sharif. 

مدینے کی نسبت ہے قیمت مری                     وگرنہ حقیقت میں سستے ہیں ہم

My value is due to my attachment to Madinah, else in reality we are very cheap

مدینہ میں مرنا مقدر  میں ہو                          خدا سے دعا یہ بھی کرتے ہیں ہم

We must be blessed with death in Madinah, this is the Dua we make to Allah Ta'ala

This is actually the Dua of all the Ulema and Awliya, therefore fortunate is the person that is blessed with the true desire of passing away in Madinah Sharif. What is the position of those people that have time to travel the world yet they do not visit Madinah Sharif, and some even justify their not visiting Madinah Sharif. How sad! A person that loves Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam will automatically yearn to visit Madinah Sharif.   

یہ نا لایقوں پر ہے رب کا کرم                         محمّد  g کی نگری میں رہتے ہیں ہم

This is the kindness of Allah Ta'ala on the useless ones, we living in the town of Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam

How honoured doesn’t a person feel if a great Alim lives on his street? Can we then imagine the honour of being in Madinah Sharif even if it is for a short while.  

شفاعت  محمّد  g کی بھی ہو نصیب                   دعا رات دن یہ بھی کرتے ہیں ہم

May we be blessed with the intercession of Muhammad Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, this is the Dua that we make day and night

The first to receive the intercession of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam are those that are buried in Jannatul Baqee, then those that are buried in Jannatul Maa’laa (the Qabrastaan of Makkah Sharif). 

مدینہ میں ہر سال ہو حاضری                   خدا سے یہ فریاد کرتے ہیں ہم

We must be present in Madinah every year; this is our plea to Allah Ta'ala

پس اے ساکنان  مدینہ مجھے                           نہ بھولو گذارش یہ کرتے ہیں ہم

Thus, O dwellers of Madinah, do not forget us (in your Duas and when going to the Rawdah-e-Mubarak), this is the request that we make

اے اختر مرے قلب وجاں ہیں وہاں            مدینے سے گو دور رہتے ہیں

O Akhtar, my heart and soul is there, even though we live far from Madinah Munawwarah

May Allah Ta'ala bless us with the true love of Makkah Sharif and Madinah Sharif, this is actually true Imaan. A person’s Imaan can never be perfect without the love of Makkah Sharif and Madinah Sharif. This love shouldn’t just be words; in fact we should make Dua for the protection of Makkah Sharif and Madinah Sharif. Whenever possible, go for Umrah and Haj, and these things should be part of our lives.
