Hadrat Sa’ad ibn Sahal Radiallahu Anhu says that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “If the world was equivalent to the wing of a mosquito in the sight of Allah Ta’ala then He wouldn’t have given the Kaafir a sip of water to drink.”

The world holds no value in the sight of Allah Ta’ala therefore the Kuffar and transgressors of Shariat are given material things in abundance. Allah Ta’ala mentions in another verse,

ولولا ان يكون الناس امة واحدة لجعلنا لمن يكفر بالرحمٰن لبيوتهم سقفا من فضة ومعارج عليها يظهرون

If it were not for mankind becoming a single nation (Kuffar), We would (give so much wealth to the Kuffar that We would) have made roofs of silver for the homes of those who disbelieve in Rahman (for the Kuffar), as well as (silver) staircases which they can climb.

When the world is so inferior then how foolish isn’t it to displease your Master and Owner Allah Ta’ala. If Allah Ta’ala had blessed the Kuffar with a few days of spring (i.e. enjoyment) as respite then too one shouldn’t raise his gaze and look at the Kuffar as Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan,

متاع قليل ثم ماوٰهم جهنّم

It is but a small enjoyment, then their abode is Jahannam

If another verse Allah Ta’ala mentions that the Dunya that has been given to the Kuffar is not a Ne’mat rather it is punishment.

فَلاَ تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلاَ أَوْلاَدُهُمْ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَافِرُونَ

So (O Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) do not let their (large amounts of) wealth and children impress (or overawe) you. Allah intends to punish them with these (punish them by means of their wealth and children) in this worldly life and (Allah intends) that their souls depart (from this world) while they are Kaafiroon. (Wealth and children therefore become a major cause of difficulty, anxiety and cause of destruction for people when Allah uses them as a form of punishment.)

If the king gives a month’s respite to one that has to be put onto the gallows and during this month (of respite) he is given things of enjoyment and comfort, will any person of intelligence ever desire to acquire such things? The son of Haroun-Ar-Rasheed who had led a life of abstinence recited two couplets to his companion Abu Aamir Basri as advise to him,

يا صاحبى لا تغترر بتنعم             فالعمر ينفد والنعيم يزول

فاذا حملت على القبور جنازة          فاعلم انك بعدها محمول

O my companion! Do not be deceived by the bounties of the world, life is coming to an end and bounties will also come to an end.

When you carry a Janaazah to the Qabr, then know well that you will certainly be carried after it (one day)

Nazeer Akbar Aabaadi used to recite two strange poems that were filled with lessons,

کئی بار ہم نے یہ دیکھا کہ جن کا         مشیّن بدن تھا  معطر کفن تھا

جو قبر کہن جو انکی اکھڑی تو دیکھا       نہ عضو بدن تھا نہ تار کفن تھا

Many times we have seen that those who possessed splendid bodies and scented shrouds,

When the grave was dug up then we did not even find a limb of the body nor a thread of the shroud.
