The world is cursed

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Listen! Verily the world and whatever it contains is cursed, except the Zikr of Allah Ta’ala and those actions that are beloved to Allah Ta’ala an Alim and a student of Deen.

The technical meaning of the word “La’nat” in Shariat is to be distanced from the mercy of Allah Ta’ala. Therefore the meaning of the world being cursed is that the world is far away from the mercy of Allah Ta’ala except the Zikr of Allah and those things that draw one closer to the Zikr of Allah  Ta’ala such as the Ambiya (messengers), Awliya (pious people), Sulaha (righteous people), good deeds, and to be involved in acquiring one’s livelihood according to necessity, similarly one that acquires the knowledge of Deen and one that imparts the knowledge of Deen are all exempted from the curse. In short, the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala and those things that lead one to the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala exempted.
