The Value of Ramadaan

Hadrat Maulana Shah Abrarul Haq Saheb R.A. gave a very beautiful example to help us understand the value of Ramadaan. If the government of a country has to make an announcement that the month of Ramadan is approaching soon, and we will give each Muslim person a money printing machine to print his/her own money. The printing process will only commence when the moon of Ramadaan has been sighted and will stop when the moon of Eid is sighted. The money is tax free and 100 percent legal tender. This opportunity will only be for the month of Ramadaan.

Once a Muslim receives his machine he will wait eagerly to receive the news that the moon for Ramadaan has been sighted. He will keep 3 or 4 telephones ready to receive calls and will keep in touch with friends throughout the country, so in which ever part of the country the moon is sighted he will be informed first. Usually, we are not keen to hear that the moon of Ramdaan has been sighted, but we are very keen to receive the news for the Eid moon.

However, now we will be keen to hear of the Ramadaan moon so that we may start printing money. We will set the machine to the highest printing denomination which is R200 in our country. We will get the old granny of 80 years old and even the children ready to print so that printing continues throughout Ramdaan. Nobody would have time to enjoy desserts, nor would anyone have time to make mashwara or any other work. Everyone will be busy printing all the time.

That was the attitude of the Buzurgs towards Ramadaan, they would eat less so they don’t have to spend much time in the toilet. They had realised the value of Ramadaan and were busy printing real notes which are notes of the Aakhirat.

Allah has made the announcement that as soon as it is Ramadaan the value of Ibadaat and good deeds increase. In this month a Nafl (optional action) is equal to one Fardh, a Fardh is equal to 70 Faraaidh. The 200 Rand notes will only be of value and assistance in the world but holds no value when we leave the temporary world.

Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “If my Ummat knew the value of Ramadaan they would have desired that the entire year be Ramadan.”

If we had a money making machine during Ramadan we would wish that the whole year was Ramadaan, but currently we all will wish that Ramadan is only 29 days as we don’t know the value of good deeds.

How valuable are good deeds? Once Sulaiman Alaihis Salaam was flying in the air with his entourage and someone on the ground saw him and said ‘SubhanAllah’. The news reached Sulaiman Alaihis Salaam. He landed next to the person and told him, “Your Subhanallah is more valuable than all these things as these things will perish but your Subhanallah will remain forever.

May Allah Ta'ala give us the Taufeeq to realise the true value of good deeds. Ameen!
