Chosing a life of poverty

34. Hadrat Abu Umaamah R.A. narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said that Allah Ta'ala offered to change the rocks and stones of Makkah into gold for me but I had refused saying, “O my Rabb, I intend eating one day and remaining hungry one day. When I am hungry then I will humble myself before you and remember you, and when I fill my stomach I will be grateful and praise you. (Tirmidhi)

In this Hadith the Ummat are given the lesson of poverty and contentment. This Hadith also indicates that poverty is superior to wealth. (Mazaahir-e-Haq).
