Beg of Allah Ta'ala for himself

If questioned by any one, what my supplication is,

I supplicate from Allah, only Himself

That I become His, and that he becomes mine,

Is my supplication night and day.

That He grant me love for Him,

I supplicate with no more say.

Whose discontent, for me goes beyond that “Infernal Abyss”

The pleasure of that being is my only desire, my bliss.

Truly, this world, of my desires constitutes of naught

Constant is that “Place of reward” from me being sought.

We should always beg of Allah Ta’ala to fulfil our needs. The example of a person that begs people to fulfil their needs is like the president of a country that steals a few tomatoes or potatoes from a street vendor. A president is a highly paid personality thus it is a sign of total humiliation if he steals a few tomatoes from street vendor.

We are all beggars

In the Quraan Sharif Allah Ta’ala states,

O people! You are all beggars before Allaah (dependant on Him for everything) and (Only) Allaah is Independent (not in need of anyone or anything), Most Worthy of praise.

Due to the fact that we are beggars, Allah Ta’ala has given us our begging bowls which are attached to a person. Whenever a person has a need, he raises these begging bowls and beg before Allah Ta’ala to fulfil his needs. If a person abuses these begging bowls by stealing then the hand of such a person is cut off. If he further continues with his evil act of stealing after losing one hand then Shariah commands that his other hand is also severed.

A person may ask for Allah Ta’ala to fulfil his worldly needs but even greater is that a person asks for Allah Ta’ala. In the above poem the poet says,

If anyone asks me as to what am I begging for, (then I will say) I am begging Allah Ta’ala for Himself.”

Dua of Hadrat Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi R.A

Hadrat Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Saheb Gangohi R.A used to make the following Dua,

O Allah! Become ours and make us yours

A person is generally effected by the company that he adopts. A person that mixes with Shias is affected by their ideologies and customs. Similarly a child that attends Christian schools is affected by the Christian belief, ideologies, customs, without even realising it. If one has a friend that is always involved in sports then one is affected by such a person as well. Such people have an Islam that is mixed with other customs and ideologies.

This can be understood from the example of a person that lives in a jungle and is accustomed to drinking the polluted well water of the jungle. If someone gives him pure crystal water to drink then will he only know the status of the well water of the jungle.

Enjoyment attained in pleasing Allah Ta’ala

When a person abstains from sins then he enjoys the Ibaadat of Allah Ta’ala. A person will comment by saying, “I had thoroughly enjoyed my Umrah or I had thoroughly enjoyed the time in Jamaat or in the Khanqah.” This is the outcome of abstaining from sins. When a person once again returns to work and indulges in sin then the enjoyment is snatched away from a person. Similarly if a person becomes purely Allah’s then the enjoyment and pleasure of Jannat is enjoyed in this very world. Therefore in this poem a person is making Dua for Allah Ta’ala. However a person has to make effort as well.

At the same time the poet says that the displeasure of Allah Ta’ala is worse than Jahannam and to attain the pleasure of Allah is superior and far greater than the pleasures of Jannat. This can be understood from an example, if a person invites you to his house and the table is laid out with various delicacies but the owner of the house (the host) is displeased with you then you will not enjoy the food if you are a person that possesses self-honour and respect, but if you a base person then you will eat without considering the feelings of the host. Similarly, if a person possesses all the bounties of the world such as having the best house, the latest car, a booming business but Allah Ta’ala is displeased then of what benefit and enjoyment are all these things.

Beg Allah Ta’ala of His happiness

No matter how much of Ibaadat a person makes we do not know if Allah Ta’ala is pleased with us therefore one should supplicate in the following words,

We beg of You until You are pleased

O Allah, all praise is due to You for giving me the ability to move and I confess of my sins

Therefore we should always make Shukr to Allah Ta’ala for all His bounties that He has favoured us with. Finally the poet says I have no desire for Dunya, I desire to be forgiven on the day of Qiyaamah. May Allah Ta’ala make us all his beloved and close ones. Ameen!
